Upstairs we have one room divided into two halves.
One half is our laboratory. This has our microscope and handheld blood machine as well as a centrifuge and haematocrit (for blood counts).
While a lot of our blood samples are submitted to an external laboratory for expert analysis, our laboratory lets us screen urine samples, perform routine faecal parasite checks, and carry out emergency assessments.
For example, we can check glucose and electrolytes- vital for any pet receiving fluid therapy. We can also perform cytology in house- essential for rapid assessment of lumps and swollen joints as well as many skin lesions.
The other half is our feed room. This is where all the food and feeding equipment (except in isolation) is stored and prepared. As you can see a wide variety of critical care and maintenance food is kept to suit a wide variety of tastes and needs.
