Small mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other rodents) have very different hospitalisation needs.
Therefore we have a separate ward for them!
We have (currently!) four indoor runs for rabbits. These give them space to move around as well as a private shelter to give them security. We have runs for all sizes, including giant breeds and can always fit in a companion- rabbits hate being separated!
We also have more conventional units for the smaller more nervous species. Again, you will see that they get shelter and bedding to provide comfort and security.
On top of this section you will find Rodney, our practice gerbil- he lives in deep litter and emerges to get his treats!
Ferrets are hospitalised in the cat wards as their smell is very offputting to the herbivorous small mammals.
